While back i replaced my front tank then my FSV went bad. Replace the FSV and ran new fuel lines for both rear and front tanks. Original sending unit is in the front, when i wired up the aftermarket FSV i accident wired my tank gauges backward so when i select rear i read front, haven't switched the wiring yet but not a big deal. I also put in inline fuel filters before the FSV, i can see fuel being pumped thru the filters on both tanks when i select either one so i am getting fuel. When i select the front tank and are driving along i get random pulses of power and acceleration that last only a second or two. When i give it a lot of gas like when going up a steep hill i throw a lot more black smoke than usual but seem to have less power than when running off the rear tank. Also my idle when on the front tank is different seems higher and doesn't sound smooth. When i shut the truck down and go to start again i get a rough start every time but then smooths out. I'm stumped by this do i need a new sending unit, maybe the filter in it is clogged? I have no leaks anywhere, the fuel in the front tank is kinda old maybe six months. Haven't had the time to drop the tank again. Any one have this before?

You’re getting air intrusion on that front tank, check over all the connections for the front tank make sure it’s all tight. Can you see crud in the filter or are they clean?

Changed filters the other day just had some rust and small debris in. Are clear now.

I have a problem with my front tank where I just get below half tank and it start to suck air and it just dies. I guess the suction tube might have a hole in it but I don't know. Any suggestions ?

The only place i see where i could be getting air is the lock ring on the sending unit. All new when i replaced the tank but maybe the sending unit is rusted and thin in a spot. Hate to buy a new unit kinda expensive.

Try some fuel injector cleaner as well, don't forget to purge your system and don't use a cheap China fuel filter

Up by the fuel filter there is a schrader Valve above the filter laying horizonal facing your drivers fender rt near your fuel return line (valve stem of a tire for looks comparison )

While the truck is running , get a rag to sit under it and push the stem in with a screw driver, you should get bubbles at first and then ok not fluid , hold open for 5-10 seconds at a time. Do this till now more bubbles come out

While this could let fuel splash out with a full tank and could let outside air get into the tank, this couldn't get air into the fuel system itself. The air in the tank would have to work itself down to the bottom of the tank and be sucked into the fuel pickup. I know that you fixed the problem, but I thought I'd throw in my .02 just because.

@notenuftime , no problem and glad it worked out , good thing you posted it up.

Also you should be running a fuel cleaner every 3k. With how dirty diesel is ,

My suggestion is diesel kleen, this gets rid of stiction on the fuel side for injectors , which is all idi's have to worry about but PSD is another story . I work on both lol

Also post pics of your setup , intrigued in seeing how your idi looks.

I may post some of mine when I do the brakes/ss lines/ Leveling kit this weekend

***** pics of your truck /engine bay is what I meant or if it's posted in the "my truck" thread I'm sure I'll see it eventually
Ya sure I'll post some here tomorrow, it's nothing fancy but i keep improving and it had remained very reliable.

Here she is, has body rust and needs a paint job but is mechanically sound. Has a super clean frame, everything underneath is great. I undercoat with a mixture of old oil out if the truck gear oil and a little linseed oil, i coat it twice a year usually. Eventually probably around 250xxx miles ill do a complete engine rebuild. Projects coming up are new headlight lenses and a coolant flush replacing all the coolant lines also then a new oil pressure gauge.
