So I'm hopefully looking for another truck after taxes come back. And normally I'm a Ford person (currently 88' F250 4x4 7.3IDI auto) But am open to other brands. I know there are lots of prou and cons to each. But I need a 4x4 diesel 4-door. I would prefer an 8 foot bed. And a stick would be a bonus, but I know they are hard to come by. What's your thoughts?

something newer? i know alot of people dont like them but i honestly really like my 98 dodge cummins 3500. a CCLB might be hard to come by but mine has 251, 050 miles on it and really have no problems.

That's the one that looks like it needs a 20 ton shackle in the center of the grill for a hog ring right? ;Poke

Sounds like you're looking for one of 3 things:

Newer truck with a 20k price tag.
Older truck that someone's got at minimum 10k into it, so again, high price tag to get them to part with it.
Older truck that "ran when it was parked", where you'll be 10k into it by the time you're done.

"Older truck" to me is anything OBS at this point

Personally, I no longer *need* my truck, I keep it due to what I have into it, but if someone had the same truck with a 460, I'd trade it.
Maybe you should find a gasser and swap your running gear into it?
I don't know what the engine swap rules are in NC though, up here it doesn't matter, you can swap a 5.9 into a Pinto if you choose.

by nature im not a dodge guy so never really liked them or the looks from that era lol. if you find a decent one with a good trans and a cummins really not a bad truck. besides the fact its still a Chrysler lol.

once you drive a cummins powered truck it really is nice.

I thoroughly expected that to be true but my hatred for the one at work knows no bounds. To be fair, I heard the newer ones are nothing like the old 5.9 was. Ours is a 2016 with a puketastic auto trans. Cannot get out of it's own way until its partway into second gear. It's pretty sad when I'd rather drive my sub-200hp idi because it "feels" better.

i have no experience in the newer rams but i know the early 6.7 stock move pretty good. if you have a 5.9 you really need a good trans rebuild for it to feel good. if you do that and a plug in tuner its hard it not to put a grin on your face.

maybe not saying much but with just a tuner my 24V will walk by most all commuter cars, SUVs and trucks.

really not trying to talk up a dodge just sharing my experience.

That is an option along with a quad cab PSD. I don't know if Chevy had anything to compete at the time <1997.

My budget is I'm guessing about $12K. Finding a gasser and putting an IDI into probably not the best idea. It wouldn't be right to have an IDI in say a 2000 F250.

The swap rules are pretty loose.
