Glow plug connectors-really good ones

Anybody know what kind of bullet connectors these are or where to buy more of them? They hold onto the glow plug 10X better than normal female bullets I’ve used for repairs in the past.

These came on a CL engine I just picked up for spare parts, seller said it needed rebuilt. Already got my use out of it because these connectors seem legit!

Next time I'm at the garage wearhouse at work I'll look at the bin that I grab those from they are super nice never thaught to use them for my glow plugs

With the 2 rings around the top, they look like they could hold an O-Ring. Are they connectors for a 6.0 glow plug.

Scratch that, they are from a 7.3 PSD Harness, from what I can tell from an internet search,

No wonder they hold plugs like they’re supposed to. Thanks for finding that. Even used 7.3PS harnesses might have value to the IDI crowd now.

Don’t they get replaced fairly often due to the valve cover gasket portion of them?

The 6.0 harness would be much more useful.
Instead of all that splicing nonsense.

I have a 6.0 harness. Connectors were crap (could’ve been a brand issue) and the wires were arguably too short. On the driver side of the IDI intake manifold where it has the two 3/8” threaded bosses cast into it, the wires were TIGHT between the two glow plugs and they sat at a slight lean. Didn’t take them long to loosen up.

These are the 3rd set of connectors (originals, regular bullets, now these) that I’ve put onto what is left of my 6.0 harness.

The 6.0 harness gets it 90% done but left some major functionality to be desired.

I had the same issue. I removed the plastic "T" pieces from three of the connectors and mine has been fine since. I do agree however that they don't "grab" like they should. I'm thinking I stuck a screwdriver in between the plastic and the connector and pried it closed a hair to fix mine.

Another problem with the 7.3 and 6.0 PS harnesses is the gauge of the wire. It is a much lighter gauge. I believe the PS glow plugs draw a lot less current than the IDI glow plugs. PS resistance is much higher if tested with an ohm meter Which equals less current. which equals smaller wire.

I had to adjust my 6.0 harnesses for exactly the reason he mentioned. I have had one or two come off. Last time I was in there, I took a pick and deformed the metal bit of the connector some do that it would grip tighter and hold on. So far so good I think. The T’s on the wire loom will slide. At least they would on mine. Some of the distances needed a little stretch. That stopped the harness from pulling off the plugs too.

This was a timely thread. Just looking at my glow plug connectors a couple of days ago. They are looking rough.

The connections to the glowplugs have to be pristine, or you will have trouble if you are using the glowplug controller. Poor connections will fool the brain in the controller and make it think the engine is already warmed up.

Yeah we're not at that point yet. I was referring more to the general condition of the plastic. Like all 25 year old plastic that has been exposed to heat it is degrading quite a bit and getting brittle. I lost the plastic off one plug earlier this year. Physical connection on the plug is still good but I do check that one often.

But you do make some valid points that apply to health of the starting system.

Half or more on my 87 6.9 don't have the plastic part anymore. Somebody's selling some kind of crimp on connectors on ebay for around $10 for a set, but i haven't messed with them so I don't know if they're any good
