That is going to be one awesome rig when you get done. I've got a rusted out '75 travelall with either a 345 or a 392 (not sure, need to check), but it hasn't run in a couple of years... I wish I had a spare 6.9 to put in it, It's got a NP 205 T-case and what looks like a Dana 60 rear axle but only five bolt wheels... Either way it would beat the hell out of a suburban ;Sweet

how big is the difference between the IDI vs. the 345? I didn't think IH would have designed them with that big of a difference. There's a guys local to me with a diesel titled Scout 2 that I was thinking about buying.

I don't have any weight figures, but the 345/392 is NOT a light engine..I doubt it's that much lighter than the IDI. For a gas engine, they are very overbuilt...

It's been awhile, but I think the 345 weighs in right around 800 lbs dry.

Some of the scouts came with a little 3.3L I-6 Nissan SD633 Turbo-diesel engine in them. It was rated at about 100 hp and 170 lb/ft of twist, and probably did pretty dang good on fuel...

Dynamatted the firewall. NICE....

I'm going to use peel-n-seal - but I wonder how hard it would be to do this with the engine mounted! Haha.

IIRC the SD-33 was supposed to get about 25 mpg. I recall I was seeing more like 15 to 18, though...but, I had a cracked piston practically from day 1 (took about a year and a half to manifest itself, though). Even with a 4 speed manual, the engine was pretty gutless...my Mercedes could easily run circles around it LOL it was a great little rig, though...if it wasn't for the rust and the cracked piston, I'd probably still have it...

Thanks for the comments guys!;Sweet

the 6.9 is a smidge bigger than the 345, but not much!! i beleive the 345 weighs about 900 pounds fully dressed. yeah D44 in the front, that's a pic i forgot, thee's a TON to room, we'll see how bad it is when the engine sits in there! :puke: i think a add a leaf will make it sit perfect. .....and i just picked up a set of D60's i'll narrow and regear for the scout. ;Sweet

The scout had the gutless SD33T 3.3L Turbo Diesel, 101 HP/175ft lbs, got a steady 23 MPG. i'll take power over MPG anyday! LOL

the dynamat is super easy when you can stand in the engine bay!!! LOL i'm doing all the interior firewall and floor too....:D

Beleive it or not the 1980 Scout II power steering hoses plug right in! LOL ;Sweet  i'm gonna buy 2 new hoses and i'm set! the booster and m/c are offf an astrovan. ;p

Keep looking guys i'm waiting on my Isspro gauge set, my rodney red Radiator, and a few more parts, once the mounts are made it'll be a bolt on bonanza! :cool
