Now, you said complete swap for 1200.
What all are they including?
Word for word.
Still sounds a bit pricey. Could get a whole parts truck for that.

It's not a matter of opinion. If anything, it's a matter of the local market. Around here, you won't find a working ZF5 for less than about $1200. Somewhere else, you might find the whole kit & kaboodle for $500. I would be willing to bet that the higher end of this range is more common than the lower.

A parts truck will cost you $2000 minimum, and that will most likely be one with an E4DOA.

Then it's back to local market. Lol
Just go on Craigslist tulsa oklahoma. "Ford diesel" max of $5k. So many great trucks. Plenty under $2k.
Around here can find ZF trucks all day long.

But really it all comes down to the op, if he feels good with that price, then by all means buy it.

Yeah around here (Akron canton ohio Craig's list) and you type in ford diesel you will get plenty of super duty 7.3's and super duty 6.0's for 10,000-20,000 dollars very rarly see a obs truck (PSD) and they want 8,000-9,000 dollers for them and most are auto hard to find ZF trucks around here, then you will see the 10 at the max IDI's on there most are factory turbo autos that's want 5-6 thousand or then a couple brick nose mostly auto them one or two bullnose and bout 50% of them are 4speed lol

The truth...
When fuel cost me .50 cents a gallon MPG was excellent!
With fuel costing me $4.50 MPG SUCKS!

That's the most honest thing I've heard all day.
...I should probably stop watching the news.

Do the math and figure out if the money spent on a 5 speed swap will out weigh the fuel fuel saving and how many years said investment will take to pay off.

Yes, but I think the op said his E40D was going out.

I was almost thinking about doing a 47Rh in my F250 .. the reason for that .. I could go back to 33's and i would have OD... and lock up .. ( and the IDI wouldnt make enough power to brake anything .. ) .. and I have one thats at my disposal if I want to do the swap ..

But I just bought the Coopers (35's).. so I thinking I have a few years to go before I do that ..

I got 17 mpg on the way back from Reno today, pretty damn good compared to my usual 14-15. I kept the speed down to 70 and just cruised along with the a/c one most of the time.

Quickest way to double your fuel mileage is to start burning 50% WMO! If you can get it..............
