I need a new starter for my 1993 f350 7.3 idi turbo 5speed. I currently have the long direct drive starter. Are the direct drive ones better than the offset ones I see for sale or not? Also, will a starter off a powerstroke fit my truck? What starters do you guys recommend? Thanks for the help.

Nope. The E4OD is the only one that will interchange.

my 94 450 was runnin a psd starter with the e4od and the zf when i converted it.needed a starter for it,my 95 was dead so i stole the starter from the 95 for the 94.:dunno

Dunno Rich. Tried a PSD starter on the ZF in the Beef and was a no go.
The shaft on the starter wasn't long enough to engage the teeth on the dmf.

The direct drive starters are better. They're a lot quieter and spin faster I've been told spin faster. When i first put the new direct drive starter on my truck i was amazed how quiet it was.
