I have a whining or a chattering at startup. It lasts about 3-5 seconds, and is quite loud. The vibrations from it can be felt all over the enigne/transmission, and it can be heard half a block away.
I have disconnected the serpentine belt and it still does it. So, it's in the engine or transmission. It will do it whether it's in gear or neutral, and still does it if I am driving away fast. The engine sounds perfectly normal right after it goes away, and I hear no wierd noises like it until next time I start the truck.
I do have a bad DMF, but this is much higher picthed and faster than the DMF noise. I am saving up for that repair.
I have been wondering if the starter could be not disengaging./ Has anyone ever had that happen? Is that what is sounds like? I have the starter out, and all bushing/bearings are bad on it, along with the brushes. I am leaving tomorrow for a 13 hour drive round trip however, and can't fix the problem before I leave. If it's the starter, I'm not too worried, I can always pull start it if I really have to.
Please help me!!
