What the Heck do i do now?

ok my amp gauge was jumping like crazy and my battery light was on. so i asked for help and was told to change the regulator check for loose or broken ground wires i did all of those. and i also found out my battery had a dead cell. so i went and bought 2 new batterys and a new alternator and regulator and now its not charging at all i took the alternator back out cleaned the connector and put it back in still nothing then took it back out figuring the new alternator was bad and had it tested it passed so i checked connectors again and re installed still no chargeing im goin nuts. does anybody have any ideas of what it might be? my truck is a 92 f350 srw reg cab. thanks

sounds like the alternator isnt getting a energize signal from the ignition switch

were is the wire that does that located?

well since i have not had that issue with my ford i cant tell you an exact location ... is this a external regulator or one on the back of the alt. case if its on the alt case its one of the wires that plugs into the regulator if you have a multimeter put it on dc 12 v put ground on batt. ground then check the wires on the regulator one should have 12v with the key on and nothing with key off ........ if anyone has hands on with this please correct me but this is how most alt. systems works

If you've got an external regulator, then on the back of your alternator will be a little signal wire that plugs into a small prong. My guess is after the new alternator was installed, this little wire was forgotten

there were 2 wires when i took the old alternator out 1 that bolts to the alternator and 1 that plugs in the to the alternator. both were hooked back up when i put the new one in. but the is another post that had nothing hooked to it on the old one and i coulnd find any wires laying around maybe that post is the problem. does any body have pictures of there charging system to see where this 3rd wire may come from. thanks

I would bet the little wire that plugs in, is not making connection with the plug in the alt. They are known to get hot and melt

Typically they have them on the "HELP" board. If not a junk yard and cut one off of a harness

what about cliping the old plug and using female wire connector ends to slide over the prongs on the alternator?

^ I had to fix one of my wires in this manner, the white one in fact. Here's some shots of mine I got today shoving my cell phone down behind the alt:

There is two small wires, and one big one. The left/forward most is yellow, the middle is white. My white one corroded last year, and caused my battery light to come on, and my alt not to charge.

All three wires went about 4inches, and then went into the factory harness/loom. None of em went a separate direction

this is what im probly going to have to do. thanks for the pics. did you completely remove the plug that hooks to the alternator i cant tell theres lots of tape it looks like lol

I will bet my last pay cheque that Brad is right! I had my 1996 F150 do the SAME thing 3 years back. I found the broken wire, fixed it and shrink wrapped it and I NEVER had a problem again.....because the motor went about 6 months later in an unrelated matter.
