Since everyone seems to be posting videos of odd noises these days... What is this intermittent noise that comes and goes? Usually idle or off idle. Somtimes in neutral sometimes under load stopped in gear. Sometimes cruising at lower speeds with light load but goes away releasing pedal or under heavier load. Sounds almost like a valve tap type of noise but too deep or too much something else for that. Also sounds almost like a rod knock but not deep or loud enough for that. Best heard inside cab. Difficult to head under hood or outside truck, and can't tell anything useful with mechanic stethoscope.

See if throttle cable is rubbing injector line on driver's side.
Should have the thick rubber covering over the throttle cable touching line at that point.
Will transmit strange sounds to cab area.

That's gonna be tough to pin point as it's intermittent/erratic at this point, but it's my experience that these things usually get louder and less intermittent as time goes on :D

I'll take straight up injector knock for $350, but I like Jasper's "field bet": huff, chuff, or injector. He's got chit covered when he gambles ;Sweet

What is the difference between a huff and a chuff :dunno

Great call Rick, THANKS loads for this!!

I have been chasing down a knock since I changed my injection pump. It mimicked a faulty injector perfectly. when I loosened the injector line the knock went away, so naturally I assumed new injectors would make the knock go away. You can Imagine how disappointed I was to have the knock still there after installing a new set of injectors. I read your post and had a eureka moment (remembered what a pain in the shorts the dang accelerator cable was every time I had to work on #8 injector). So I tied back the cable with a cable tie screwed into the firewall, my truck now sounds like 6.9 liters of well tuned diesel perfection, WOHOO!!

Rad support was loose on one side and shims came out, and trans mount was kaput. Hoping one of those was it. No odd noises from intake or exhaust. Have new pump and injectors coming, hoping it was just loose ram support or whatever. Didn't hear anything idling but didn't get it up to temp or drive it. We'll see tomorrow.
