There's an internal diaphragm that splits and lets the fuel into the crankcase. With it diconnected, you might be able to just cap the lines so, if it were to leak, the engine oil wouldn't spew out. You could also spend the $5 for a Chevy blockoff plate http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=TRD-2058&autoview=sku

Also keep in mind that you listed pump isn't rated for diesel. It may work and it may not.

what about holley red i just bid on one
isnt the block off plate hard to put on? since the pump is hidden

The plate isn't too bad, harder the get the pump off than to get the plate on. There are a few Holleys out there that are doing OK, and some that have bitten the dust. :dunno
