Water Pump Recomendation?

Well the truck is in need of a water pump and I'm wondering where to get one?

I see Napa has a few different ones listed that vary in price. Was also considering a Ford or International if they don't break the bank.

I had a rebuild on my truck and it only lasted 20,000 miles. What a pain! I decided no more rebuilds. I got a new water pump from Ford for like $95 out the door. I came with a gasket and four new bolts and instructions. I don't want to pull off another crappy rebuilt pump in two more years, so I went with new.

For less than $100, it was an easy decision.

Check the parts bin. The Ford water pump is probably the best choice followed by any reputable after market new pump. The remans have a bad reputation. The only way you could really screw up though is by getting a standard water pump and then getting using bolts from one of those that was updated with a thicker pump boss. That wouldn't be good. If you do a clean job and use updated bolt with updated pumps, standard bolts with standard water pumps, and then use a good sealer on the appropriate bolts you should be good for many miles.

I use the $25 water pump from autozone, never a problem. For $25 I can afford to buy four of them, just my .02.

I am running a aftermarket new pump. I'd rather take a beating than go to ford for anything!

Mine has been on for going on 5 years, it was the first thing I replaced as the one on it had been damaged by whomever put the fan clutch on it.

Oh, I'd probably throw a thermostat in it while I was there too, you already have a good deal of the stuff off you'd need to change the stat...most here recommend Motorcraft, but i've been running a Stant for the same amount of time as my water pump. I always drill a small hole in the flange to allow air through, like a 1/16" or so.

I've never had problems with reman pumps. I've had one on my mustang for over 10 years with no problems. If I have extra money I'll buy new, but reman doesn't worry me.

quick question if your water pump is going out does it make you belt squeak

Junior, your tensioner is likely shot, those will make belts squeak and they can also come apart.

If you water pump is going out, it could be the bearings in it that are squeaking.

The Napa pumps have a lifetime warranty. I just replaced mine a month ago, but the replacement was free! The last one lasted 3 years.

Thats one thing that interested me about the Napa pumps. Having a lifetime warranty seems good but I don't want to be replacing the things every couple years.

Thermostat and heater core were replaced last year and I used the Ford thermostat.

My reman had a "lifetime" warrenty too. But, I'm not going to go through the hassel of replacing the water pump every 20,000 miles. Not worth it, at least for me. That's way I bought a new one from ford.
