What happened in the last video is the rear u-joint finally broke after 4 years, well maybe more. Shimmed the governer so it has a few more rpms. We bought another 6.9 truck that had a very low mileage motor, we figured we are running to big of turbo and gonna put a hx35 or hx40 and see how far it can go before it scatters. But may be looking for injectors, stronger rods (maybe rods out of a 92-94 7.3?) studs and maybe a port and polish. let me know what you guys think.

you really need a governor spring like what dyoung has. about 4400 rpm sound better? that oughtta get the turbo spinning. maybe its just a twins setup that you need. that and some better gearing to keep the rpms up.

but looks like you guys are on your way to showing what an idi can really do!

yeah im not really sure what we are spining, i think its around 4200 now. But the turbo we got is too big, we are gonna try an hx35 or hx40 that we have lying around the shop. It has 4:10s in it, welded rear and open front. but we have a another 6.9 waiting for the engine stand, gotta finish the main puller first.

What kind of boost are you running right now? And how much do you plan on pushing with a smaller turbo? If it's 20 or under, the HX35 will be better, but that's still on the low side of the map for that charger. HX35's are a common turbo to use on tuner cars, but they are out of the map at low pressure ratios.

Look into an S200 or S300 based charger that the tuner guys use. With a strong map up to 22 psi. Something that was used on a high winding, 600+ hp V6 will supply plenty of air for a 4500 rpm IDI. If you're worried about restriction, you can always get a decent T3/T4 turbine housing on the S300 frame, instead of a smaller housing used on the tiny motors.

You need the govornor spring like i got mine will turn 4400 in second pretty easy, first is scary how quick it will rev that high, seeing that big turbo on there is making me want to keep my psd turbo and put it on mine, how much boost do you see? what all has been done to that ip it seems like it dont have no problem fueling that turbo, and here is the link to see mine tach 4400

i don't know how much those sleds weigh but i pulled 220 feet with my n/a 7.3... cookoo http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=62151605

Yours was a running sled, whereas the other ones were constant drag sleds. Running sleds allow alot more speed before the pan drops and brings the truck to a halt. Makes for some excitement while watching, but also for alot more breakage too.

I watched an N/A 6.9 pull 84 feet with a constant drag sled, and a ~650hp CTD make it 190 ft in Iowa 2 years ago. First thru 15th(!) places were seperated by 19", makes for very close competition.
