Are you getting what you pay for in terms of these air compressors?
I really like this Viair compressor, but I would like to run a tank as well so I have the option of running air tools of tire inflation in an emergency.
So this cheap kit with a tank popped up as well.

What do you guys think? Will the Viair be that much better quality of a compressor?
Also, for those of you running these things, where do you mount them? My dad says to mount it in the cab behind the seat, but wouldn't it be loud?

i have a compressor from pep boys, the red one, for less than $70. smittybilt also sells the same exact thing for more money. from what ive heard (not hooked mine up yet) they really work well. my buddy put an on-board air system on his bosses dually. used that compressor mounted to inner framerail under the bed and a 2.5 gal tank to run train horns. he said even under the bed you can still hear it running. im going to do the same with mine, though i might use a RV battery box to mount it in to keep the water and salt spray off it. i myself would have trouble spending the $$$ for the viair stuff.

this is a story of you're going to get what you pay for.
the motor and compressor head of the viair is a more rugged unit.
the other one isn't.
you will need to pencil out in your head if two of the cheaper units will outlast the more expensive unit.
but.......
neither are commercial grade.
viair does make a commercial grade compressor that will set you back $500 to $1100.

If those are your only choices, get the viair. They make some good units. If your going 5+ gallons reserve, better off getting atleast 2 of them, or you'll be waiting 20 mins to fill them up. Stay away from airzenith. They are the worst from my experience.
