My truck didn't come from the factory with air conditioning, and living in Michigan it's pretty much a necessity come august. It seems like retrofitting the factory air conditioner into my truck would be a massive PITA, and probably wouldn't end up working out too great. getting a whole system would probably be expensive as well.
I've found these under dash air conditioning kits, popular for classic muscle cars and beetles and stuff, it seems that with two holes in the firewall I could have one of these installed in a day. I would be giving up some passenger leg room, or maybe I could trim the bottom of the dash off. This would also likely be the cheaper option, the blower is $200-$300, and the rest would be under $100 from a junkyard.
Does anyone have any experience with either solution to this problem? I'm not sure which solution is better here
Thanks - CL
Here's an example of an under dash unit, this one is not so well mounted.
