The thin braided ground wire on the pass side clips to the frame on one end, and clips to the support metal that runs under the floorboard of the cab. It's another ground along with the important one that goes from one of the bellhousing bolts to the firewall.

The main ground from the batteries goes on each side of the engine block. But the engine, tranny, transfer case and rear leaf springs are all mounted in rubber bushings. So you need smaller wires going from the engine block to the sheetmetal.

I am not sure how they do it on these dual battery trucks, but on the gas trucks they usually had a bare spot in the ground wire with a metal band around it. They bolt this metal band to the frame on the front pass side corner. But the cab is also mounted in rubber body mounts. So I guess they used that little braided jumper as another aux ground for the frame to the cab. I guess it's possible if they do not have the metal band on the ground wires, the metal braid could be grounding the frame from the cab also.
