I got three piece shaft...parts guy sold me the same part number u joints for both the transmission end, and the axle end.....But, the axle end does not fit. The one he sold me is too big. What gives? Looked on their site, and it says it's the same joint for all three spots...and the part number he sold me matches what it has listed.

they should be 1350 joints all around if someone swapped teh rear end it mway have a different yoke and joint or it may have a conversion joint with say a 1350 on the shaft and a 1440 on the diff side. If its different, you are going to have to bring the old one in to a driveshaft place and have it matched up, then get a few spares

I don't think I've seen any setups using the same exact u-joint throughout the shaft. At least with my 79 chevy, b2 I had, nor s10 my brother had.

Might want to find a drive shaft shop and have them look it over. I have not heard of this issue but I don't repair my shafts. I use a very good shop thats known for their drive shaft work.. And thats all they do.. Been using them for probably 30 years now. Please post back what you find out so others can learn too...
I think this it what it is. Gonna bring the old joint with me this time when i figure out how to get into town.
my original u joint that fits says 352 nsr on the body of it.Any ideas? Def not stock judging by the marks where the dim wit wackd the ears with a hammer, and i was wrong the axle side fit fine, but the transmission side did not.
edit: but something is definetly wrong seeing as the neapco catalog said for my set up, the tranny joint and axle joint should be the same, but the middle joint is different. My middle joint and tranny joint are the same. ugh. I'm thinking the drive shaft is from a different year. The catalog shows for 1980 models, the axle joint is the only different one. Like i have.

I replaced the old U-joints on my '86 crew cab's rear driveshaft with new Dana/Spicer units. There are two different U-joints in the shaft. The part numbers are 5-1203X for the middle joint (1.062 caps), and 5-1204X for the front and rear joint (two 1.062 caps and two 1.125 caps).
Mine is 4x4 but it sounds like the 2x4 shaft has the same U-joints.

could be like my 92, 3 different u joints in it, 2 were crossovers, and one was the correct for the year

I wouldn't lose sleep over it, just take your old one in and have it sized. My f-350 ended up needing half of my superduty driveshaft when I did my t-19 to zf swap. Its all different under there, but all available at my local parts store.
thanks guys i had them cross reference the spicer numbers and got the right parts. Easy to say not to lose sleep over it but it's my only rig until i move your way next month, shadetree. So by the parts guy not looking close enough at the catalog (and me not double checking) I was pretty screwed. I walked there today about 7 miles each way in the snow. Sucked pretty bad lol.It's all squared away and feels a lot better. But now my stupid fuel gauge don't work and is pegged on empty, sigh. I still brought it in the garage for a quick detail though.

Sorry. Its easy for me to say just take the parts in when I have a yard full of junk with generally something that will start. The nice thing about u joints is now you should be able to forget about them for a while.
