Turbo rebuild help.
I have a ats .088 I’m rebuilding should I send it out to get balanced? What do they do balance it then mark the shaft and wheel you just line it all up when your reassemble it? Also how do I hold the end of the wheel to get the nut off in the picture.. I’m scared to scar it with vice scrips.

They balance the whole CHRA. So you'd send center housing and turbine plus compressor and they assemble and balance then give it back to you in one piece, ready to have the snails put back on and rock out.

The easiest way I've heard to get the compressor wheel off is to use a Gator grip socket on the turbine. Can also use a shop cloth and your hand over the turbine fins...sounds like trouble to me, haha.
Rumor has it bursting an impact wrench will zip it right off. Just be careful not to get crazy with it and mess something up.

Technically they can be component balanced. That's how the 7.3 powerstroke turbos are.

Right, they already *are* component balanced, nothing to "do" to them if that's what you want.
There are lots of threads around that discuss the pros and cons of both.

@Thewespaul, @typ4, @Agnem and Justin at IDIperformance all get their turbos balanced, I'd say that's worth noting.

DO Not use an impact to remove the compressor wheel!
The shaft is tiny and fragile.
No tool marks and no stress are the keys to keeping a 50,000 rpm rotating assembly from granading. No tool marks, no hammers. Do make a rotational index mark shaft to compressor wheel so you tighten it back to the same spot. I make a tiny file mark- tiny as can still be seen. When breaking the compressor wheel loose from the shaft use a socket and tee handle with two hands. (Assuming the compressor wheel has hex on the hub) Using just a ratchet in one hand results in a lot of side force on the shaft. A bend in the shaft as little as .0001 ca lead to a disaster.

Where did you track down the rebuild components? My limited search didn't turn up any information on parts.
