We have a 1992 K 1500 with the 5.7 litre V8 and an automatic transmission.
One night when we got home from work, the transmission just went to hell. Reverse wouldn't work anymore, it just acted like Park, and you could only creep forward less than 5 mph using a low gear. So basically the truck is inoperable. Luckily our 92 F350 is still kicking so we can still work. Anybody able to tell me what might be wrong? Will i need a rebuild/new tranny?

Thanks

You most likely have the TH700R4 trans in that truck. From what you describe, it sounds like it has just finished its life. They fail all at once like that just like Ford's E4OD. Best of luck

The transmission could be a 4L6OE also. My '93 K2500 Suburban with a 454 had the 4L8OE and it did the same thing. Lost reverse, and the forward gears followed just after.
