Transmission Linkage Clip/Bushing?

On my 1989 E350, the clip that keeps one end of the linkage rod connected to the transmission came off and the rod came loose.

The rod is the one that is about 6 inches long. The nylon bushing was still intact.

I think the clip is probably a C clip.

Any ideas what/where I can get the clip and bushing?

I called the dealer and they said it uses only a bushing, no C clip. They also said it was an obsolete part.

I found an after market bushing on Amazon (Dorman Help! 14041 Pedal/Shift Linkage Bush) (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CO76QA...e=395261&creativeASIN=B000CO76QA&linkCode=asn). One reviewer said the part was cheap plastic. The remnants of the bushing on my van appears to be made out of nylon. No sense putting in a cheap plastic one that doesn't last long. Another reviewer said he made a bronze bushing and used a hitch pin to retain the rod.

There is another bushing: ATP Automatic Transmission Shift Linkage Bushing Part Number: 5305-0712872. Not sure how good this one is.

Well, the part I put in lasted about a year and a half. Broken again.

I think the part I put in was the Dorman Help! 14041 Pedal/Shift Linkage Bushing. Probably made from cheap plastic instead of nylon like the original factory part.

The Ford dealer said the part is discontinued.

modify it for a rod end, and never have that issue again.

this post is for my clutch rod from the master to the pedal, but same concept.

The kits are cheap...buy 3 use one and stuff a couple in glove box for later road side replacement
