I've been bugging some of the guys behind the scenes about transfer cases. Here are some pictures of what I have in my truck, from the pictures on the Gear Vendors site, which show the 1345 that you have to use their back half of the transfer case to use their OD units, I'm guessing I have a 1345. The rear output shaft does not have a removeable tailshaft housing. The case is clearly stamped BW, and it doesn't look like a 1356, so I'm assuming it's a 1345. Here are the pics (the first is the rear view, the next is the front view, next is from below, then of the BW stamp, then of the adapter)...

The transfer case I purchased from Brian (Mudbillyrednec) is an NP208 and is the one I want to use. It should only require the adapter from Gear Vendors (I know, lots of money) and should be a bolt in affair (with the right adapter) correct? Here are a couple pictures of it (from a 1986)...

Unfortunately, the adapter on the GV unit I have is the long, 1356 one, so I'm gonna have to do an exchange unless someone has an adapter for an NP208 they want to trade for a 1356.

It does LOOK like a 1345. I am pretty sure mine actually had the number on the case somewhere. I have my fully rebuilt unit available if you want it... and a spare new chain.

the 1356 is as strong as the 208. none of them beat a gear drive but I gaurantee you will be able to get another tcase cheaper than an adapter.

I agree Russ, not sure what I would need to use either the NP208 or 1356...is the transmission to tcase adapter the same for all of them (1345, 1356, NP208)? I contacted Brian about getting the one from this tcase, hopefully he still has it and can ship it to me. Then I'm sure there could be yoke issues, where mine won't fit and I'll have to find them too...ugh, this is getting complicated! :)

Sad, but true commentary on gearvendors customer service stranglehold on adapters on the way they make sure that they are all kept in captivity :backoff

All Ford transfercases use the same mounting flange to the transmission. I just looked in the shed I do have one with a removeable output shaft housing. If you want I would swap you one, I'll just add it to the pile. LOL

I just found a guy who says he can get one for MUCH less than Gear Vendors will part with them. I'll let you know what I find out.

With the 1356, it uses a rear slip yoke and the 1345 you have now uses a fixed yoke front and rear. Either way, you'll need a new rear shaft once the gear vendor in on as the shaft will need to be shortend.

Already have a shop setup to do that, I'm sure they can put whatever yoke I want on the front of the dshaft...I would like to use the NP208, we'll see what this guy comes up with and go from there.
