So I just bought my 87 6.9, everything ran perfect and looked good but as I was checking things out, I noticed that I have trace amounts of oil in the coolant. I drained and flushed the system but with in a day the oil is back. The amount of oil seems the same and it does not seem to be getting any worse??? WHAT GIVES???

Head gasket, oil cooler, or both is my bet. My 322K 6.9 had just a trace of coolant in the oil. The head gasket was leaking near the #1 cylinder. The oil cooler was leaking oil like a siv, but it wasn't mixing fluids. I replaced the head gaskets and added ARP head studs and rebuilt the oil cooler as well.
