Towing Capacity

Hello everyone I have a 1985 F250 4x4 reg cab with the 6.9 idi and 4 speed manual transmission and I want to buy a travel trailer for it and was wondering what a safe weight limit would be? I would only be taking the trailer back and forth the Cascades in Washington.

What is your gear ratio? I forget exactly what the manual says, but I think it is somewhere around the 11-14k GCWR. Weigh your truck and go from there.

Do you have a turbo on it? If not, you can pull a travel trailer but will be slow on any inclines. It will get you there reliably, just not quickly. The saying is "You won't be the first to the top of the hill, but it will get you there every time"

I've had 5000 (car and trailer) behind my 7.3 NA e250 and had no problems.

My gearing is 3.55 and I do not have any turbo.

I have a 83 6.9 4 spd, 3.55 rears I pull a 24 ft gooseneck with a 7000 lb tractor and a 1500 lb cub cadet utility vehicle. I figure I'm grossing 19000 lbs. I've pulled my 25 ft 5th wheel camper and it pulls it with no problem. The factory tow rating isn't but 5000 lbs with 3.55 rears. My 2011 F-150 is rated to tow more than my 83 6.9 or 92 7.3 diesel, Go Figure????
