I have the tranny out of my truck to rebuild it. I am thinking of installing a TCI converter. Here's my problem. The engine is a 1990 7.3 and the tranny is a 86 C-6 that came out of a truck with a 6.9. TCI offers a converter for each engine, could someone tell me the differance between them. Is it worth it to upgrade the converter? The last owner of the truck ran it out of fluid and cooked the tranny. Thanks

not sure on the difference:dunno but I'd go with the 7.3 one.
ummmmmm........NO YOU DON'T.
on these trucks you match the torque convertor to the trans.
same goes with clutch and flywheel parts. they are matched to the trans.
only and only if the '86 and the '90 trans are C-6's then you can go for the '90 spec'd unit.

As Towcat says go with the trans you have, just make sure that the hub pilot on the converter you get is the same size as the one you have. I spent the better part of a night when I was in H/S tring to figure out why we couldnt get the motor and trans bolted together afther a motor swap. Turns out Ford used different hub diameters on the torquconverters for different engines.
Are you putting a higher stall speed in? Or a towing converter?
