Awhile back I read a thread about timing. I remember it said something about adjusting the timing mark on the pump about 1/8th of inch off from the one on the motor. Problem is I don't remember whether you turn the pump towards the passenger side or drivers side. Which one is it?

Towards the passenger side advances the timing while towards the drivers side retards it.

 I just bought a timing meter on e-bay, and got to check it out today. Turns out that the old advance it till it rattles when you load it up with the cold advance on, then doesn't rattle when the cold advance cuts off, is a pretty accurate method. I had set mine up by ear before, my mark is 1/2 scribe line advanced. The meter came in at 8.3 BTDC @ 2000 rpm
