i think this would mostly be for those in the rust area but could be helpful for all.

i wanted to check the timing on a 7.3 i have at the shop and i noticed the hole for the probe was very rusty. after some thinking i came up with something that worked very well for me.

here are the basic parts.

this it the measurement of the probe, a 5/16 drill bit works great.

the modified bit and ratchet i used to clean the hole.

all i did was take a 3/8 nut, slide it onto the bit, weld it and cut the rest off. the 3/8 nut takes a 9/16 socket. its a slow process but does the job.

Great hand tool made for a specific job. Every timing meter I rent out has a 5/16 drill bit and several other tools to simplify the timing of our engines.Just be careful working that tall probe hole. That has a crappy connection to the timing tab. The tube is just rolled over like a brass brad on a pair of pants.
