Think this turbo will work?

Haven't gotten any pics yet but I was looking around the junk yard yesterday and found a 97 E350. It was an ambulance that I used to drive and has found it's way into the local junkyard.

I know that being a 97, it's a powersmoke. Not knowing much about them, I was sure I would find the injectors going through the valve covers. The valve covers looked just like the ones on my 6.9 and 7.3 IDI's. I did notice the lack of an IP, so I figure it's an early 7.3 PSD.

Anyway, I have a chance to get the turbo and all associated pieces for cheap. I would like to know if it's do-able, or not.

It has the "Turbo" exhaust manifolds that turn upward and has the two up-pipes(?) that both go around the bellhousing and up to the turbo itself.

The downpipe is a full 3" and has a heat deflector on it. All of the pipes are in pristine condition, without much rust on them.

My question is, can this turbo be semi-easily fabbed into place?

Also, will the exhaust manifolds bolt-up? The guy in the office told me that the right side one would, but not the left. What's up with that?

If you want to go thru all the trouble of trying to get it it fit on an idi.

if you like headaches welding and fabrication like me o and long hours of looking and thinking then its right for you if you do it i sugest you get every thing that goes with the turbo that way if you dont need it you can re sell it

The turbo will definately work, with a little fabrication. But the manifolds are not going to fit if you were thinking of trying that.

If you want to go through with this, I would start by mounting the turbo wherever you want it to be and then run the piping to it. If you want to mount it on top the engine like it is on the Powerstroke then make a flange, and some bracketry to mount it there and then start at the manifolds and make piping to connet the two, its not that difficult, especially if you have lots of scrap pipe around and a little mig welder. The hardest part is getting started and finding the time to finish.
