The harmonic anvil? Boat anchor? Keel? What is this?

I replaced the clutch in an '87 7.3 ZF5 today ... It had a flux capacitor hanging off of it.

The Service Manual calls it "damper" ... I didn't write the part number down.

Anyway this is the first report, that I recall, of flux capacitor on ZF5

I'm bringing home an '87 F250 6.9 with a c-6 this week, and it has the same thing mounted under the trans. Made me think this is where you hook the rubber band when you want to shoot it, like the balsa wood airplanes.

I used to scratch build balsa planes like that when I was a kid. Although, with bamboo reinforcing on all the leading edges and the nose, they were also quite dangerous, now that I think about it. Way more fun than the fragile wind-up balsa planes.
