Went to the local truck wrecking yard today to try to find an injector line. I've got one that is leaking at the injector. Found a "parts" engine and picked up the right line. While I was doing that, discovered the "parts" engine had a tach sending unit with the wires in good shape and about 3 ft of the two wires that go to the cab still attached. Dismantler clipped it with *****. One green wire, one black wire. I pulled it and bought it.. $5 ...;Sweet

Ok,, now the question. What tach will work with this sending unit? Which wire is which for signal.. and who has done one before?

Thanks,

those are "supposedly" for the factory tach. the autometer tach functions on the same general principle but I have yet to test the theory.

g mann--diesel tach only--gas wont work--been there---ask that yard where the truck is--and just get that dash--put it in--the wires are already in the loom---and away you go---

sassyrel.. already ask that question.. the engine came in as a core exchange to the yard.. truck is somewhere else, or gone by now. Next idea please?
Been looking for a year for a donor truck with a tach dash. Are these rare as hens teeth or what?
Looks like aftermarket tach for me.. diesel of course... any suggestions?

How many teeth on the IP gear?

:dunno I've located a nice tach but I need to know how many teeth the IP gear has to see if it's within the range of the pickup for this tach.

Anybody got a gear laying around they can count the teeth on and let me know? :dunno

Thanks,:hail

I want to say it has 38 since we count to 19 using Ziggs method to find the correct gear timing when we have jumped a tooth. Someone should be able to tell you for sure if that is accurate. Maybe Zigg... a lot of the guys are without internet at the IDI rally.
