Strange puddle

This may sound a little crazy but a few weekends ago i noticed a puddle of diesel fuel dripping from under my cab. i looked up underneath and saw it running from the front tanks filler neck down the bed and dropping near the cab. the filler neck isnt leaking, so i assume its the vent for the fuel tank. i opened the filler cap and heard a hissing. ok no big deal, some pressure built up and possibly over filled.

its still leaking from this area, but only when parked on an inclide that has the drivers side lower than the passenger side. what could be astray? i still think its the vent releasing pressure, but from where? the tank is 1/2 or less full by now. i havent tried switching tanks from front to rear yet. this all seemed to happen after i installed a new lift pump, but i filled it up and ran a full tank after with no issues.

I'm not sure how the pressure valve thing works on the top of the tank, but i know that the plug at the end of the line that clips the the frame for venting has fins on it so that the hose is always open and venting. What im not sure if the "valve" (if thats what it even is) is always venting, or if it waits for a certain amount of pressure before it vents. When i repared my tanks i took off that vent and tube, but i just cleaned it.

The vent hose I think is just that. Now I would check if the fuel tank selector is working right and not taking fuel from one tank and filling the other with the return.

that is another thing i was considering. i hope its not lol.

so, in theory, could to much pressure cause fuel to come out that hose...OR...as said the selector is pushing fuel into the rear tank that is alreadt full?

anyway to test it?

Well, is the front tank gauge mark at full for the front tank? The sending unit is IN the tank.
Now pressure can push the fuel out if that where the case.

well i had my truck on the lift at work on saturday and did some investigating. the fuel system, tank, selector and lines are all dry. turns out i had a pair of shocks from my SAS project that i removed off the axle, tossed em in the back and i guess one had a small hole and it leaked the oil out and went inbetween the seems in the bed and ran down then dripped out.

Well it sounds like you found your culprit, I had something similar to this happen to me but it was an independent frontend for a lift kit we never installed on my bros truck, it started leaking gear oil in the bed and ran down to the floor, I checked but nothing wrong except for the oil

really... a leaky shock has been causing this??

it was the junk shocks i have laying in the bed that leaked. why it smelled like diesel fuel is beyond me though. everything is dry in the fuel system which eased my mind a LOT.

well Ive smelled some pretty ronchy oil in my time wrenching at the Big Tire shops... So nothing surprises me... Glad it worked out well...
