Starting Problems

I have a 1990 dodge 4x4 with about 250,000 miles on it. My truck just recently started to have starting problems, Sometimes it would take me literally 5 mins of trying to start it, and the other night it went out totally. It clicks but no fire, what could it be other than starter?

Just to clarify, you can turn the switch in the cab and hear a click but the starter does not try to engage and the engine won't turn over. Is this correct?
