Ive got a 87 F250 4x4 ext cab long bed. Bought the truck with a 6.9 backed by the good ol' T-19 4spd and the ATS turbo setup. Motor was leaking oil bad and one day last week it decided to throw a rod through the oil pan. Luckily enough I had a great running 7.3 IDI sitting in the garage for another project so out came the 6.9 and I dropped in the 7.3. The 7.3 was bolted to a 2wd c6 when I bought it but that got removed to go into my 87. Swapped over the flywheel and clutch kit off my 6.9 and everything else bolted up flawlessly. Before firing the truck up I wanted to turn the motor over a few revolutions to get all the new oil primed through the system but as soon as I hit the key my starter decided it just wanted to zing off the flywheel. Never had this problem before with my 6.9 and the starter was replaced a week before the rod went through my pan. I removed the starter and checked teeth on the flywheel along with my starter, bench teated my starter and everything seems to check out good there. At the point of getting ready to pull the motor back out but dont want to if I'm overlooking something. Wondering if anyone has come across this before and has a possible answer or lead for me to go on before I pull this monster apart again. The only thing I did NOT change from the 6.9 to the 7.3 was the spacer plate that bolts to the block behind the flywheel but I did measure thickness and they did seem the same, maybe they aren't but im not sure. ANY help is greatly appriciated and I thank you in advance!
