Yesterday I bought this timing meter.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...34810875&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:MOTORS:1123
Its the same meter that Mel used to time our trucks at the rally. When I got home from the rally I checked my timing with my Kent Moore J33300 meter. All I could get was 3.3 BTDC where Mel set it at 8.5 to 9.0.... So I decded to buy the best. I also found an original Rotunda meter designed for our motors so I bought that one too. It was almost a steal and everyone hows how much I like spare parts and tools. So now I have 3 meters and will be posting some facts about how they work... Just as soon as I can....

Can't wait to see the info you get out of these.
Are you going to run it with the Ferret? I couldn't remember what you said the other night when we talked.

That one is the cat's meow it can do both luminosity and pulse. I can't believe you couldn't get the Kent-Moore to work right they are supposed to be the easiest and I know you know your stuff. Are you sure the offset was correct?

I've always thought it would be interesting to see the results on the 1480 with both pulse and lumy. I lack the ability to do lumy, so I have no values to suggest. Now your going to have to go out and buy a roll of red tape. LOL No impersonating me... I own yellow. LOL

Mel.. There are way too many differant colors of tape to choose easily from... I may go with the magenta radionecleoid color... Just to be differant... I still have the yellow you put on at the rally. I probably will be buying a number one injector line off a 92 or 93 van. I really have no need for the pluse adapter fitting thats on the truck now. I did buy a hard line off a truck in the yards from a later 6.9 but being a longer line I may not install it. Sure... Its only 60 thousands longer than what I use now but how will that differance affect the timing...:dunno I may find out just because I want to. I need some timing numbers that I can depend on first.. Too bad we live so far apart Mel.. This could get really interesting with comparrisons....

Are you sure that the Kent Moore is working like it should? When i timed mine with the same device i think i got a reasonable results. Timing lines aligned i got around 3.5 BTDC, then turned the pump about 2.5 mm to the passenger side and then got 8.4 BTDC. So i would think that now the timing is somewhere around where it should be, but then again i don't have any possibilities to verify it....

Whats happening with my Kent Moore J33300 is as I increase the rpm I watch the timing start moving the correct direction. Then around 1500 to 1700 rpm the timing jumps to 30 to 50 degrees. I'm not sure why just yet but still working to find out why.

KPJ, that 8.4BTDC@ 2000 is pretty close but European specs have always been 9.7*BTDC we think it's because of the ULSD fuel which we now have over here in the US as well. For luminosity Calvin likes 2* ATDC at 2000, and I put mine at 1.5* ATDC at 1400 with a Snap-On MT254.

If you can present evidence to back this up, that would be greatly appreciated. This is certainly a valid point, and if true changes everything. ;Really
