small fuel leak cause rough starting?

I'm trying to figure out why all the sudden my truck is havin a hell of a time trying to start when its cold. The thing is, it will sometimes start up right away and then die off after 2 or 3 seconds and then I can crank it till the battery wears and it wont even be attempting to start. Last time I had to jump it with my car and it finally started. I have a brand new high torque starter, brand new battery (only replaced one, they said the other was good), and brand new berus. After it is warmed up it has no problem starting up again.

I did notice a small fuel leak from the sensor on top of the fuel filter. Could this small leak cause this?

YES - this is a classis case of air intrusion...Check all your return lines for loose clamps or leaks and fix them. I went through this with my 6.9 a couple of weeks ago...It was just some loose clamps causing me all the grief.

sweet! Hopefully that's all it is. Got another 7.3 sittin here, I'll rob the sensor off it and check return lines while I'm under the hood.

Anyone know if theres a diagram of how the return lines are run from the factory on a turbo idi? I know they're different and I didn't change mine after putting the turbo on. Maybe it's melting a line or something.

If it was melting a line you would have a puddle of fuel under the truck... Yes... That leak will cause air to be sucked in as the fuel drains down....

That is not a sensor on top of the filter, it's power to the fuel heater, got o'rings on it, just pop's out and in.
