Should I replace the water pump

I'm in the process of some repairs on the radiator core support of my 94 f250 IDI turbo. I took the front clip off and found that I need to replace the core supports on the frame. Should I replace the water pump while I have it apart any other recomendation will be appreciated.

Anything that's accesible now and it's time is up I would change since you have all that room now. Hoses, fuel transfer pump, water pump, belts are all examples of easier to do then on the side of the road broke down.

Yes, but if it aint broke dont fix it! Lets face it, unless your gonna buy OEM parts from the dealer, the china crap will probibly wear out again before the origionals would have.

Do what you want but it's alot better to replace a transfer pump now than later with a base full of diesel fuel or stranded out on the highway. And a water pump from International is $58, big deal. It's called PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE! Look into it. Are you telling us you don't change your belts or filters until they break or get clogged, oh yeah according to your sig you do!

any idea how old the water pump is? also serp belts rarely just fail. do what you can afford but if you replace as maintenance put quality parts on. I dont know how many times Ive replaced something to make myself feel good only to have that part fail and get the old part put back on.

Thats what I was thinking. The pump has 137000 and 58.00 is not alot for a factory pump.

Wow, not sure how to take that comment. Sounds kinda ****-headded to me
Anyway, my point is alot of the replacement parts that you get anymore are of a lesser quality than what was origionally put on the truck. Even the OEM stuff in some cases. Ultimatlly its up to him if he wants to spend money on it or not, I was just sharing my experiances with these trucks. Thats what this board is for right? My origional water pump started leaking around 180K, lift pump just shy of 160K and my IP/Injectors were replaced at 158K. My dads 88 he bought brand new still had the original fuel system when he sold it a with 167K on it.
As far as my sig, if you dont know the story behind it its not really fair to make coments about it.

I know some of you out there probably don't like them. But, I got the remaned water pump from autozone for only $25 and put it on my 93'. No problems what so ever. After all, we are only talking about a bearing, seal and impeller here. My $25 pump works just fine, and side by side, it looked as good as the one that came off the truck.

yup--place i have dealt with for years as a mech--i got the pump for 15--put it on--still going strong 10 yrs later--- what tears the serps up--is when the idler pulley bearings start to head south--and DRAG---gets the belt hot--bang--in the middle of nowhere normally--then you get to do the belt,and idlers---

My ranger has 172,000 on it and still has all the original parts including serpentine belts. I just had to put an alternator on it today. Not bad for a 20 yr old truck.

If you take a look under the hood with all the front clip on....rad included, you will see that it is a little crowded to do a water pump...you risk punchtring a hole in the rad as well.

If it is unknown when it was last changed, change it now. Keep the old one as a spare. Not to add to the list, but how old is the thermostat? You might as well do this while you can stand in front of the engine too!!

USE GENUINE FORD/INTERNATIONAL PARTS ESPECIALLY FOR THE THERMOSTAT!.. Sorry for yelling, but I have read a thousand times that the thermostat be changed out with genuine parts only!!

Other than that, spray the rad support with undercoating to prevent more problems down the road!

hello sassyrel looks like ive come to the right place lol. i always tend to get drawn to the disrespectful people with there ******* in a ***. twostacks if it doesnt have any slack in it or its not dripping water out the botom of the *** hole or making any funny noises i would leave well enough along. if anything while the radiator is out i would make sure its flushed real good before it goes back in because all the trash accumulates at the botom.
