(short) intro

hey guys, i'll call this my short intro for now. i've had my 90 f-350 drw 2wd 7.3 sinse last april, and its to long a story to start tonite! really i love this damn truck! it's a pretty sharp rig that was well taken care of and spent 98% of it's life in texas and oklahoma (no st. louis rust ) . judging by the condition of this truck inside and out i think it only has 198,000k miles on it.(odomiter reads 98k. was at 89 when i got it). i am a car nut, and i know my way around cars and trucks. this is my first diesel truck, and i'm looking to learn my way around this truck. i have allready replaced the starter, ip,return lines, and the waterpump. yet, i think theese thing where just normal parts that go at this milage. anyway this is getting to be not a ''short'' intro and i'm freaking tired. caint wait to post up some pics and pic you guy's brains on this truck.

With that many miles, were the injectors ever replace? Did u time the IP at all with a timing meter?

doint know, and no.i got lots of questions.lol! truck runs great, but gets crappy mpg. i love driving the truck and would like to keep it for a long time, so i want to get it up to spec.

i bought this truck off a small used car lot so i doint know anything more about this truck than what i could see. AAMCO did put in a new tranny at 87k (or prolly 187), that along with the trucks registration history was on the carfax.the rtuck is set up for long distance hualing for sure. it has a really well done headache rack/toolbox/fuel cell in the back. not sure how much fuel it holds but it might be close to 100 gallons. i'll post up the deminsions later and maybe you guys can help me figure that out. the cell will pump into either tank while driving down the road. it also has a hole in the bed with a huge plate and collar underneath between the frame rails for a gooseneck.

well thats my truck!lol! it's pretty damn clean, and best of all it really has NO rust! thats huge around here to get a southweastern truck. the nuts and bolts on the running bourds doint even have rust.i bought the truck with a large down payment and a 4 month short term finaince. the ip went out after about two months , and i was very new to deisle and burnt the starter on the side of the hyw when the ip went. i decided (sinse this was really bought for a backup truck for work)to just pay the truck off before i bought the pump. the pump looked to be origanal. the entire i.d. plate was factory stamped in every catagory on the tag, and their was an epoxy or something filling all the star-headed bolts.
now, i know some of you are going to crap yourself on how i changed the pump! i seen a vid on youtube on changing it by marking the timing gear to the housing and pulling the whole timing cover! i had allready done it before i read the comments at the bottom! lol!
i was scared shitless that i just f'ed up the truck i just spent $4600 on and the $550 pump from nappa. the truck runs fine though. lucky me i geuss.the truck still gets crappy milage (10 mpg) though. i did put a k&n filter in, and the truck has single into a flowmaster 1 in 2out **** out each side with magnaflow ss silverline tips. it sounds awsome but from what i keep reading i'm thinking (correct me if wrong) that a chambered car **** aint what this truck needs.
i hope i can (with you guys help) get some more power and fuel economy out of this thing. the truck rides like a lincoln! everything feels real tight. i think this truck is just at that age that i have to put a bit in it to bring it back to top performance, for a long service life.

Well youll probably have a few folks chime in and say you paid too much. Not IMO, around here that truck wouldve listed private party for $3,5-4k easy.

Im actually suprised. Youre up north AND financed it from what appears to be a small used lot. Im shocked they werent asking 6-7k with financing.

Regardless it looks like a clean truck.

Ok, down to business, If the IP was original, I'm thinking the injectors are probably original, are they grey?
A timing will help fuel economy, but only if you have good (or at least decent) injectors.
For figuring out the capacity of your axillary fuel tank, figure 7.5 (7.481 according to the FAA) gallons to the cubic foot and you'll be close enough.

well thanks guy. i doint think i paid to much on this truck in my area/market though. i looked around for a diesle truck off and on for a year, and i see people wanting 5-6k for really clean rigs with 300-500 k on them. 98% of 90 ford trucks in st. louis have rust holes somewhere. this truck is increadibly clean underneath. not even surface rust on any of the sheetmetal.
i'll take a look at the injectors tomorrow to see what color they are.
you gotta love fords ***** red interior . lol! i doint mind it at all realy in the truck, but i'll say one of the top reasons i bought my 91 mustang gt vert was because it didnt have red interior!!!
thats my other baby that takes up alot of my time. my stang!
