Well I haven't even started replacing any parts on the engine yet as they are coming in from all the ordering I've been doing. I found rust under the truck on the floor pans and side rockers. Just what i needed. I found another can and hopefully will be able to pick it up next weekend.
While i have the rusty cab off I am gonna replace as much as I can on engine and check all the electrical for any breaks in the wiring. Hopefully there is not much that still hidden.
Is cab replacement just a pain in the butt or is it even worse than I am Thinking?

What size cab do you have? It’s not that bad, you can do it without pulling the bed, but I prefer to have it off. I would be sure to have new body mount bushings on hand. Good time to replace components on the steering column while it’s out.

Ext Cab.
I will be searching for new bed as well as this on has cracked on inside where the tailgate closes and had some shoddy panel repair to it as well. I have ordered the new body mounts and will be using the cab and clip from donor truck as it looks to be in great shape. Plan to re-purpose the good parts off mine afterwards to recoup some money.
I cannot complain for a $600 truck you know.

Make sure you get the title with the new cab. Then you can go down and get new registration for that cab, and you will now own a new truck, with the new vin on the cab.

If you do not get the title with the rust free cab, then it's a big can of worms. Swapping tags is illegal. Sometimes if you have a bill of sale on the cab and the title to the original truck, they will issue you a reconstructed vehicle vin.

I know of a good bed down in Houston. Guy wants $350 for it, if you want you can shoot me a pm and I’ll give you his info, while the bed is off I would pull the sending units and check their condition. You will need to disconnect the brake lines at the master cylinder, would be a very easy time to swap to hydro boost.
