I have replaced all my injector and IP with UHAUL stuff and my mileage was horrible. Checked the IP timing, smoke at acceleration. Then I saw all the fuel leaking when I parked it. I checked all the fuel fittings and nothing was leaking. I found that it was the mechanical lift pump that was leaking. But wait it gets better.... It only leaks lots when it has a half tank of more. Anyone have an clue as to ***?

Might of burst the diaphram... The pump.mech probably isn't flowing for crud and the tank pressure pushes through. Just a guess, Check your oil for diesel. You'd know pretty fast

Are the lines tight n healthy to n from it? Bolts?

You will tear up an IP if it doesn't have low pressurized fuel feeding it. The IP can pull fuel up to it, but the timing will change if it has to pull fuel....there is your timing issue as well as smoke!

Also, if the diaphragm IS burst, you will ruin the engine as the fuel will thin out the oil and cause a LOT of premature wear!! Check your oil!

The metal line seems to be tight enough, but the rubber hose is original and looks swollen. The smoke is only during acceleration, here at 5000 ft there is not alot of air.

Yup I know how that goes, did a road trip from near sea level to almost a mile high and as she climbed the mt.

That hose could be cracked, I'd swap it anyway. If your oil shows any signs of diesel in it then its time for a new mechanical pump though.

Were your injectors new or refurbished/used looking? The IP most likely needs some calibration for the altitude... Turning the fuel screw down and timing.

I was planning on replacing the fuel line and pump this weekend anyway, but it stopped leaking this morning and I have a 1/4 tank only. So it confused me. I checked the tank and it was not pressurized. The injectors were brand new BBs.

I think it has a lot to do with fuel tank level. Gravity will want to keep the fuel level at it's lowest point.

That's why when you hav ea return line O ring leaking, gravity will let the fuel flow back to the tank...which is lower than the top of the engine.

Same case as you have there. The lift pump is at about 1/2 tank level. The fuel will leak out until pressure is equalized....when the fuel in the tank is lower than the lift pump, it can't leak.

Do I make sense? I didn't think so LOL.

Makes complete sense to me, just wanted to make sure that there was not another cause. At least the underside of the van is clean now from the lift pump on down.LOL

If I were you I would just get rid of the mechanical pump at this point and get an electric one. That way if you do ever develop a leak on the fuel filter or return lines, all you have to do is run the electric pump to prime the system. Don't have to crank the entire engine over and burn out your batteries.
