Can any one tell me what rear end is in my 88 F-350 4X4 donnor truck? I know it's a 4.10 ratio. This is the axle tag,

2 V129C
4.10 10 2 8K11
Thank you. Dan

I can't dig those numbers up but if it's a 12 bolt rear cover it's a Sterling and a 10 bolt cover it's a Dana

Thanks for the info, it's got 12 bolts. I am planing on putting the Dana 60 and F350 springs in the front of my 84 F250HD after I rebuild the axle. I have a Dana 70 rear in the truck now and I carry a heavy camper. Do you think I would be better off with the Sterling axle?

Both good axles.

If the D70 has the same ratio as the Ford Sterling axle I don't see a need to swap it. If the ratios are different I'd swap them to save a few bucks on a gear swap.

10.25 Sterling is a good heavy duy axle and not too awful expensive or difficult to repair when needed. Have one in my '90 dually and wish my '00 dually had one because that D80 in it is expensive to swap gears in.

Biggest advantage the 10.25 has over the Dana 70 is removable brake drums. Other than that, the 70 might be slightly heavier than the Ford, but not enough for any other consideration to be made.
