Im replacing the I-beam in my truck and ran into a problem with the bolt that goes through the center pivot bushing, mainly that I need a new one. The only one around town that that I could find that is a good fit is a metric grade 5 bolt. Question is, is a grade 5 strong enough for this job? I want to replace it with a factory original or grade 8 ASAP, but right now I need to get the truck back on the road, just to get to work. I know it isnt ideal, but will it hold up? Thanks guys

I'm pretty sure it won't hold up for very long...from your earlier thread, a guy looked at the bolt that was on place and it was stamped 10.9, which IIRC is the metric equivalent of a Grade 8. ESPECIALLY given that this is a suspension piece, if you put a too-weak bolt in place and it fails, you could be placing yourself in grave danger.

If you ABSOLUTELY need to get the truck on the road ASAP and a Grade 8 SAE bolt will fit in place, I would use that before a Grade 5 metric bolt...but even still, I would be very careful driving and put the correct bolt on ASAP.

Hope that helps some...

Crap, thats what I thought too. Problem is that I cant find a grade 8 SAE bolt that will fit through the bracket. A 5/8"x 3" Fits in the bushing great. I dont want the I-beam falling out again, already had that happen once, not a fun experience. Thanks for the reply

is there a fastenall or CAT place around you? get a good quality bolt even the grade 8 bolts at large chain hardware stores can be a little iffy on there true quality.

mcmaster.com is another great place to browse for things like that.
