I bought a 99 F450 with a bad motor and I am going to use the turbo and I/C.If I can use the 6spd then I will.I already sold the trucks shell for more than I paid for it and then got another $300 for the engine. The tranny only has about 8K on it.

The ZF6 isn't a direct bolt up to an IDI, there's a write up online somewhere I found on google where a guy put a ZF6 in one of our trucks..

Requires a custom/modified adaptor.

The top bolts don't line up.
You get 1 more gear with the same final, and OD gear ratios

Two different animals.

Jaybee put a ZF6 behind his IDI and it's a pretty involved mod.

Jaybee is the guy! I had a link saved forever thinking I would try this out someday, but really it was alot of work for just a granny gear and a very slightly taller OD compared to a ZF-5. Still, an IDI crew cab with a ZF6 would be a sweet truck.

The OBS PSD and IDI use the same bellhousing pattern on the transmisison adapter(not the block) my PSD has a ZF from a 94 factory turbo IDI behind it.
With the0 ZF6 you will have to use the transfer case that is attached to it, the output shaft is larger than any of the older transmissions use.
From the looks of jaybee's thread:
http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f30/how-put-6-speed-zf-2wd-idi-52618/
The ZF6 eliminates the adapter housing between the block and the bellhousing, and that is where things are different.

Looks like Ive got a ZF6 swap in my future.Seems to be less work than shoving a 454 into an 85 toyota 4x4!
