Proper procedure to remove and install the IP Pump

After rebuilding my engine I went to time it with a meter I had boworred from icanfixall but I had a major problem when I installed the IP Pump it was off a tooth to the clockwise direction and didnt know it
The generic shop book I had got from a local parts place said to mark the 4 O'clock position on the ip pump gear cover which I did but I didnt mark exactly right.
So with icanfixalls help we had found out it was off a tooth. Now that I got everything corrected and timed right, the engine runs like a champ.
So lesson learned to remove the IP Pump do it the proper way or you may end up with it being off time.
FWIW if your rebuilding an engine mark the "Y" timeing mark with a yellow or white paint pen so you can easily see it with the timing cover on the engine or put the IP gear on then put the timing gear cover on so everything is lined up right, I should have done this and I didnt and it was hard to see the "Y" mark but I got'er done.

So at least for me lesson learned dont take short cuts cus it may cost you time in the end and have to redo a job that should have been done right the first time

I've got one in my yard that I'm tackling tonight that had the gear tower removed and timing advanced that was done by a supposedly reputable shop.
They also removed the CDR riser tube, reused the old vally pan gasket and left 4 injector return line caps leaking fuel back into the crank case from the opening left from the riser tube.
All done just to repair a bad head gaksket!
