Also found out it was 3* not 8*.I know I have 1 glow plug not woking(harness conn) lucky it started..although it was loud at those temps.

Sooo. This one glow plug not working is new information omitted in the first post... This was important information but I'm sure you have no real engine issues. Se, the combustion chamber needs to be hot for the diesel to ignite. Its 942 degrees hot. Compressing air FAST creates heat. When that heat is not enough then the glow plug help out. Also the faster the engine cranks the hotter the air gets. We could never make enough heat by slow cranking our idi engines so please don't try to start a dead battery system by slow cranking. Get it spinning fast . Ever wonder what a pull started car or truck fires off so easily.. Air in the cylinder heat up from fast compression of the air. No doubt you made some smoke with one plug bad. Probably hurt the eyes too..

speak for yourself. with all the meds i'm on, a powerdump is the norm. I get worried if it doesn't happen these days.

As if Grand Nationals, IDIT 2xOD, and the old vulcan super cradle with twin lines isn't enough...why the hell do you have to be in such a hurry all the time?

Caught a ride back and picked it up this morn a 4am.Was even colder.Did start on 2nd try,smoked like crazy and cleaned right up after 4-5 minutes.Not starting it anymore without that gp fixed.Thanks for the tip. Wellused

And my Dodge fired up at 3 am in a hurry,didnt allow grid heater to operate..fired first roll???? Boy,commonrail is nice..even if a little $$$ After 6k in the new Super Duty..makes one realize a stock e4od is sorta lacking.The trans behind that 6.7 is ALWAYS in the right gear and quickly.Had to take my Dodge to catch a ride,in the salt ughhh!

Salt.... The killer of all good trucks. I just don't think I could drive in the salt no matter what I had as a salt beater. I supposed if I grew up in it then that might be different. Glad you were able to bring home your rig. One new glow plug and its all fine but replacing all of them might be a better solution too. At least check all the other connections and function if you can get the rig in out of the cold..
