Does anybody know where I can get a used gear splitter or gear vendors, us gear or ranger overdrive? I don't have the money to buy a new one.
Thanks
Bill

Just keep your eyes open on ebay. Not often anybody comes here looking to sell one, but it can happen. Sometimes somebody wants to sell a truck that has one on it. That's one way of getting one if you don't mind brokering a truck to do it.

I just picked up another 86 F250 XLT Lariat, this one is extended cab 4X4 with a camper shell, body is cherry, 177k on the clock with a gear vendors and a Banks turbo 33R1250-16.5s, bushwacker fender flares, CB radio, CD Player kind of feel bad talking the guy down from $5k to $3400, drives great, but will be replacing water pump this weekend.

Found the truck on craigslist and it was way up the woods in remote NORCAL and no one wanted to drive that far to check it out.

C6 tranny was redone 28k ago......

It only took me 7 years of looking to find a gear vendors unit and mine came hooked up to a great looking truck!!!!!

Big Jake, have you replaced a waterpump on these before? The reason I ask is because that big nut that holds the Fan Clutch on is a Bit__ to get off. I was trying to replace the fan clutch and I couldn't get it off, even with the special wrenches and the knowledge that it is a backward thread. I ended up taking off the water pump and clutch together (decided to replace both) and still couldn't get it loose, so I cut it off at the nut so that I could get to the pulleys and fan blades. I hope your job goes easier.

Yours must have been unusually difficult. I've done many, and not found one that the proper tool wouldn't take off.

One other thing to watch is the two upper water pump bolts. It you put the wrong ones in there you can shear off the injection pump pulley. The pump that I purchased from ford had new bolts that were correct length for that casting. Other wise a very streight forward job. Good luck, Doug

I have done a water pump on my other 86 and I do have the fan clutch wrenches, and I do know about the water pump bolts.

In edit, found this on craigslist while surfing tonight......

reno.craigslist.org/car/199816628.html

this one appears to be just northwest of Las Vegas, NV and it looks like they are giving it away.

Good luck to someone out there, a guy could fly into Vegas, get a great deal and have a killer weekend on the strip to boot
