Oil in water is usually the oil cooler. There is much more pressure in the oil then the radiator,so the oil travels from the cooler to the cooling system. You wouldn't be likley to get oil in the cookant from a head gasket as all there is for oil flow through the head gasket is oil drains , which are not pressurezed.

Of course Murphy has made many exceptions to the rules.

Welcome to the OB Brotherhood!

My vote is for the oil cooler, it is the most common cause for this problem and a realitively easy fix ;Sweet

Actually it's under the drivers side exhaust manifold, thAT BIG long tube that ends in the oil filter mount on the back end.
Another possible place to get oil mixed in is the valley pan gasket, or the water pump gasket, but these are rare occourances.

So what is the small radiator looking thing that i described? is that part of the tranny cooler?

My truck doesnt have any type of external cooler aside from the a/c. I do believe there is an additional system run through the radiater though. I really havent looked that close at mine yet though, could very well be the trans though...
