OEM Fuel Gauges Connected Directly to OEM Senders...

Since I'm about to replace my Pollak with a 3 way valve and I'm losing the use of the oem in dash tank selector and I thought that I would try something.

I have a spare instrument panel. And since the only gauge that works on my current dash besides the Speedo and Tach is the fuel gauge - I was thinking of taking the fuel gauge from the second dash, trimming it's face a little (to make it fit in the oem oil pressure gauge's spot and directly wiring both senders to the backs of the gauges. I'll tape off the foil oem connector film before attaching the sender cables.

Is there any reason direct wiring the senders won't work?

I believe there is a constant voltage gizmo connected to the fuel gauge, so it shows the correct fuel level.

I don't have all your answers but I do know the older 80's trucks gauges don't operate at 12 volts. anybody that has ever had gauge problems knows that you need the IVR? Instrument Voltage regulator available at NAPA

as long as you have a flip switch between the 2 sending units it will work with one guage. the ele. unit oldbulls is refering to is so the fuel guage doesnt bounce up and down when the tank is almost empty. if you are still going to have 2 tanks and some type of flip switch you should be able to wire it to work each tank to one guage.

Presumably these work view resistance? the wire going to the sender is 12v? I must say I have absolutely no idea. I was just going to leave the old pollak in place till I could figure out a solution.

As I mentioned I'm going to yank the OP gauge and slide in a second oem fuel gauge since I have one (with a slight mod to make it fit). I thought then I'd just wire both senders directly to each gauge. Can this be done?

It's that or purchase new autometer universal senders ($35.00ea) and new 2-1/16" autometer gauges and shoe horn them into the dash - would take some cutting and finagling.
