New to me 90

Finally bought my first diesel, sticking a good amount of cash into it in just the first week and hope I don't regret it. Picked up a 90 reg cab 250 4by 5spd XLT Lariat. Was dumping more fuel on the ground than it was burning.

So far I've replaced the autolite glowplugs with ZD9's, new return kit, tested the glowplug controller and harness. Pump should be back today or tomorrow, having K&S Injection in Wausau do the rebuild. The farmers I work with ALL recommended them, full rebuild and setup for under 500.

Also tracked down battery drain to a few crappy grounds, slight corrosion at the bulk head connector and replaced all battery cables with 2/0 welding cable.

1 quick question after this long winded start, when you guys that have done true dual exhaust, what size pipes do you go with after cutting the Y pipe out?

I had 2.25 but 2.5 or 3 is alot better

2-2.5 is more than enough. You have to remember the manifolds are only that big so any bigger is a waste.

Imho2.25 was a little to restrictive. 2.5 would be better

Welcome to OB! You are doing the things that should be done to get your rig reliable and ready for service.

Mine are turbo'ed, so no duals for me, but the biggest issue I see with true duals is finding room to get the driver's side pipe past/around the T-case and front shaft.

I was thinking of just cutting Y out and turning the driver's side bank to follow pass side down to just before rear wheel and exit, otherwise I have some 3 1/2" stainless from a friends superduty that I may just add after the Y, not sure yet.

That's the way I set up my old 86 except I then dumped the 2 pipes into a 2.5" dual to 3" single Y and went with a 3" straight pipe after that. She breathed really well. Welcome to the site man! You're gonna love it here!

With your exhaust, youll get more benefit getting away form the factory style "crinkle" bends and going with full mandrel bends. Those cinkles reduce flow as they create turbulence.

Then I got cheap, had no vacuum so I disassembled the diaphragm and found a small hole in it. Trying old speaker trick with silicone, if this works, I saved about what $100? Took pictures, so if it holds for a week or two I'll post the fix.

Liquid electrical tape works better for rubber surrounds and i would say for a temp reapir on a diaphram go with that.

Ok, vacuum pump only putting out 8in. These look pretty spendy, even on ebay. Has anyone tried an electric vacuum pump?

IIRC and I think I do, it kinda is opposite to what we are talking about, as the exhuast cools down, the gas slows down so you need a smaller diameter as the gas cools, larger up near the engine thus you balance the flow with the overall diameter and length of pipe...just sayin...

You may be ahead going with hydro boost brakes. There are several threads here on whats needed IIRC.
