New IDI Owner

[NTOLERANCE]

Took the plunge today and made a trade for this 1994 2WD NA 7.3 with a 5 speed.

Truck has 333,000 miles on it. Did quite a bit of reading on this site before doing the trade. Solid no rust truck, just a bunch of dents. Being from Wisconsin, rust free was more important that the dents.

Fired the truck up this am, the glow plug circuit seems to click on and off really fast. Started kinda rough for a 60 degree morning. Guess I will be checking the glow plug circuit when I get home.

You have a couple of bad glow plugs or if you're lucky one or two disconnected. Yes you're welcome even if the truck becomes a Ford-Cummins. I'm guessing that 60* morning was not in Wisconscin, with that short cycling it may not start at all up there without the block heater. You'll probably find the bad ones with a test light, if not you need to look more closely. The bad ones are usually "opens"

Have you read the tech article on cavitation yet? Do you know if the engine's had any major work done? With the mileage that high, I would be concerned about cavitation...otherwise, looks pretty good! At least from that pic, it doesn't look like rust is a big problem, which is always good

Do yourself a favor and replace all glow plugs with Motorcraft Beru's and its not a bad idea to replace the injector return line o-rings. Both are fairly easy to do and are well worth the effort.

I traded a 96 2wd Ranger. Good little truck, just too small for me and my family.

I have read up on cavitation. Previous owner is a High School Auto shop teacher. He used the proper coolant. Not sure about engine work or not, it runs well, just made a 700 plus mile trip back from Nashville to Wisconsin. I am soooooo wishing it was 4WD.

As far as the glow plugs and such, yeah I will attend to those as I can. Truck has dual tanks and the rear one needs some repair, seems to have a leaky or smell from it. I am dying to run that tank on WVO. Fuel system is my top priority on this truck.

Can Biodiesel be run in this unit with out any mods? Station down the street from me carries it.

Yes but some of the rubber on the fuel system (return lines, o-rings, any rubber from and to the fuel tanks) will react to it over time maybe sooner than later. This engines are great for alternative fuels.
