Hello everyone.I've read a number of diesel forums and you guys really seem to have a great community here. Hopefully i can add some thing to it at some point.

I'm looking at purchasing the above truck. I just took it for a spin and here is what i could gather.
Claimed mileage is 136k. Right side of brakepedal pad is worn to metal but otherwise seems to be in good shape. Original owner. Truck has sat for last 8 years in a carport with infrequent use but was recently moved to sell it.
70 degrees today. Radiator level was below the top of the core. Let the gpc cycle, go out then another short cycle and it started immeditiately. I had depressed the pedal fully and it did not seem to be high idling. Ran well. I forgot what it was like to drive one of these. Mash the skinny pedal and there's no feeling of horse power but it just keeps pulling. Tach bounced but engine didn't sound like it was varying speed. Is this typical? 1-2 shift was, ehem, firm. Well, more jerky than firm.
Owner claims: IP pump was changed around 60k. Injectors are original. Glow plugs were changed. Alternator is a rebuilt. Radiator changed WITH a4 core. PS pump changed. Fuel selector works and tanks get full capacity.
Master cylinder looks fairly new. Has group 31 batteries-interstate workhorse but I couldn't find the date stickers.
I tried to feel for blow by but couldn't feel or see any with that giant fan blowing over the oil fill. I opened the air cleaner and there is a little oil in there but just a film.
Brakes- booster seemed marginal. It worked better when i ran engine at 1500 rpm-vacuum pump? Pretty good shake on braking. Guessing discs are warped.
AC-does not work. Last time owner turned fan on, it smelled like burning grass. System does not have a charge. He thinks it was converted to 134 8 or 10 years ago. So it could be anywhere from 100 to 1000 to make it work.
Suspension- Definitely a diesel truck. Only concern is the 3/4 inch gap between the front axle and the bump stops. Is this typical? I am guessing the winch bumper with the high lift and the winch aren't helping this. Oh yeah, it has a winch :score:
Body- I've seen 26 yo women in worse condition. Fairly straight with a few dents and a unique slice in the tailgate. Interior is wine. I hate the color.
Engine compartment had typical weeps but i didn't see any major leaks. I didn't notice any diesel leaks around the injectors or the return lines.
SCAs. I asked 7 different ways about coolant additives. It sounds like ask he has ran was 50 50 green. How concerning is this?. From reading, it sounds like worm holing happens around 200k. Ideally you run additive from the beginning but if you start using it before you get a hole, it should stop any progression. I can go back and test for SCAs now that we filled the radiator but he really had no clue about SCA additive. i do like gambling, just not where a 2k gamble can cost you 4k more.
Any thoughts? Anything i missed?
