Murphy SUCKS!!!

Dang Murphy's Law! I've been trudging along with the rewiring and detail work on the crew cab. Trying desperately to get it ready for my trip down to Georgia for dirt bike riding at Highland Park on 5/25/11. I was ready to start the truck last night for the 1st time since pulling everything apart.

I filled the radiator with coolant. Plug the Facet fuel pump into the relay and get ready to bleed the system. That pump is crazy loud when it starts to prime, better once it is pumping fuel. I open the schrader valve on the filter head and before all the air is out of the line, I start hearing and smelling diesel!!!

There is a large puddle of fuel in the floor at the front passenger's side of the truck. I stop the pump and crawl under to have a look. I have Dad turn on the pump again, and what do I see........... A stream of diesel squirting out of the side of the freak'n hard line that runs from the former location of the mechanical fuel pump up to the filter.

There was no hole or leak before the project, there was no hole that I could see when sanding and painting the line, but there sure as heck is one there now! The only spare I have is an old E-series line that will not work. I called Ford, sure they can get a new one for a measly $280!!!

Thank goodness, Darrin has one. It is a 7.3 unit but, it will work. I'll have to wait a while before I can start the 6.9 again. This is seriously increasing my pre-prerally truck jitters!!!

My '86 with the 6.9 would stutter every now and then.......doing something else I
discovered a hole in that line that would, most of the time, seal itself on the frame rail
that caused the hole in the first place! I still have that piece of tubing in the truck as a
conversation piece.

thats the way you have to look at it. it broke down next to your tools!

So glad I went from those lines to Russell proflex from the rear mounted carter fuel pump up to the filter head!

Glad you found one, but you can make one up as well if you are in a hurry...I did.
