Goofyexponent
Mentally Unstable..
I got a couple questions.
I did the manual TC mod. It works great...the mod does anyways. I tried putting the truck in drive today, then locking the converter. Not reccomended I know. But I did it as a test. My truck is now shuddering BADLY when the lockup is engaged...
My truck did not stall when the converter locked. It barely even labored. It just slowly started moving forward as if I was driving away, but I wasn't touching the fuel. I had my foot ready for the brake in case she took off, but I wasn't applying that.
I changed the fluid and filter. The old fluid wasn't the best, but it wasn't burnt or full of pieces. I also hrew in a bottle of Lucas tranny additive. It helped for about a week and a half...now it's back at it again.
I am now 100% sure my TC loockup feature is F***ed. If I leave the TC unlocked the shuddering is non existent.....ruling out other driveline parts. But what I don't understand is when it is unlocked, and I lock it, the engine drops 500 RPM and stays down...it's shuddering and making a roaring noise like a rearend isn't shimmed right, but not slipping and letting the engine wind up....am I making sense?
I KNOW the rearend is fine, as I JUST changed the fluid in it last weekend....No gear teeth, bearing parts or weapons of mass destruction fell out. There is no slop in the hubs, I just put both new hub seals in the rear end, and both sets of bearings were fine.
With that said, can I run this as a non-lockup converter? Like the C6's used to have. I know it builds heat, and I am ready to deal with that (got a big cooler...I mean a BIG cooler!!).
I am for sure doing the 5 speed swap, but I have to come up with the $1500 necessary to buy the parts and pieces needed to put the truck back together once I tear into it....this could take until spring with the way work is going....not good.
Any other quick fixes? I just need this to last a couple months....not 5 years.
